Kathleen V. Shoemaker

Kathleen has more than 18 years’ experience as a bankruptcy attorney, including six years as a staff attorney for the Chapter 13 trustee in Tacoma. Born and raised in Tacoma, Kathleen is committed to serving the Puget Sound area residents as a bankruptcy attorney, providing debt relief to consumers and small business owners in Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy cases. As the daughter of an Irish immigrant, she is a believer in the American dream and is happy to assist individuals obtain a fresh start from their financial problems.

She started her career as an attorney employed by James Dart from 1995–2001. From there, she worked as an attorney for Nagler & Associates in Seattle before pursing the opportunity at the Chapter 13 trustee’s office, and, then in 2010, forming the firm with James Dart.

Kathleen decided to pursue a career in bankruptcy while a student at Seattle University School of Law and clerked for a semester during law school for the Office of the United States Trustee in Seattle. She is a member of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys (NACBA) and National Association of Chapter 13 Trustees (NACTT). Kathleen is serving on the Executive Committee for the Thomas T. Glover Mediation Program for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Washington. She is available to meet clients in the Tacoma office.


James F. Dart

Jim has more than 29 years’ experience as a bankruptcy attorney representing small business and consumer debtors. Jim is a lifelong resident of the south Sound region. Growing up in the small fishing town of Westport, Washington, Jim understands the needs of his clients.

Early in his legal career, Jim interned for the Honorable Robert Skidmore of the United States Bankruptcy Court of the Western District of Washington. He has been a member of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys (NACBA) since 1992. Jim has served as a District Representative to the Creditor-Debtor Section of the Washington State Bar Association. He is available to meet clients in the Tacoma office and is also available to meet clients in Olympia.
